The power of color-correction tools

Photoshop comes with a host of color-correction tools, which enable you to affect not only the color itself but also the hue, saturation, and brightness of an image. Many of the adjustments in these tools are built in and aren’t customizable, but you can make the following adjustments through the interface. (For more on this interface, see Chapter 6.)

Note: In this edition of the book, I don’t cover the Hue/Saturation/Luminance adjustment tools included in Photoshop, because they are so similar to the color-correcting tools in the HSL (Hue/Saturation/Luminance) panel. For detailed information about color-correcting in Photoshop, check out Photoshop User (``).

If you need to find a specific color in an image, you can select from the built-in color picker, which enables you to view and choose colors from within the image and color ranges of that image, or you can click on any of the button of the Adjust Color panel to reveal the Color Picker, which enables you to choose a color or color range from within the image.

Hue/Saturation/Luminance: Adjust the color of an image in HSL mode

You can use the Hue/Saturation/Luminance adjustment tool to make color adjustments that affect not only the color of an image but also its hue, saturation, and brightness. In addition, you can drag a color from within a color range to make a selection. You can make many changes with this tool, but I won’t go into detail here.

HSL controls

The HSL controls enable you to make changes to the color of any image in terms of hue, saturation, and brightness. You can use a selection-based adjustment to make changes to an area of an image. You can also use the Color Picker to make changes in terms of hue, saturation, and brightness. It’s

Since Photoshop Elements is so easy to use, many people have written the native Photoshop commands used on the Elements menus and then shared them online in text form. Unfortunately, most of these are not complete and do not work for every single menu command in the program.

Worth noting is that none of these commands will work if you do not have the latest version of Photoshop Elements, i.e. Photoshop CS6 or newer.

See below for help on some of the important commands:

Simple Actions

You can create simple actions that will allow you to perform many actions with one simple action.

Here is a demo in Photoshop Elements:

Open the image, add a new layer, and name it “My Layer”.

Create an action that performs the following steps:

Copy the entire screen.

Paste the screen in another layer.

Select the copied screen layer.

Press the duplicate layer button.

Select the duplicate screen layer.

Move the duplicate layer up a bit.

Merge the layers.

Select the merged layer.

Click the layer mask button at the bottom of the layer window.

Select the “Cut” option under “Blend” (the button in the bottom-right corner).

Under “Shape Mode,” select “Freeform.”

Enter values of 0%, 50%, 100%.

Click OK.

Move the “Cut” layer down so it is behind the original screen layer.

Create an action that performs the following steps:

Select the “Cut” layer.

Under “Blend,” select “Screen.”

Open the menu and select “Adjustments.”

Under “Levels,” select “Color Curves.”

Open the menu and select “Curves.”

Select “Black” and enter 5.

Select “White” and enter 20.

Select “Save” and select “OK.”

Create an action that performs the following steps:

Select the “Cut” layer.

Under “Blend,” select “Color.”

Open the menu and select “Gradient Map.”

How can I get extra information from a Maven build artifact in an Ant build file

I’m upgrading a project from Maven to Ant and am hitting a roadblock. The project is still hitting it’s required steps, but it is not packing/deploying the application and not getting extra information available in the Maven build.
In short, is there an easy way to get and account for extra properties added to a build by Maven?

It looks like the ‘extra’ Maven properties are not getting added to the Ant build.xml file.
I found a solution in this question:
How to copy properties from Maven POM file to Ant file
The solution is:

In my case, I had to make the changes to the Maven build section (in my case the pom file that contains the Ant build section).

A prospective evaluation of centrally active drugs and psychotropic medications in the treatment of moderate to severe acute mania.

Ask HN: Best practice regarding feature requests? – cgtdrow
Hi all,
I am the founder of a small fintech startup and just raised seed funding. We are developing a beta version of our product. I am working with a team of 4 devs to build the product, and our time is very limited as we have other things on the brain. However, I am anxious to get feedback and feedback through our beta site, but I feel that many features and bugs need to be tackled before making it publicly available. Should I be making these features and bugs public?
Is there any consideration that comes into play?
I know that there is a fine line between too early and too late to ask for feedback. Should I post these features and bugs before enough people have had a chance to try them and also before the go-live date? I also know that many startups or even large companies are afraid to post these bugs because they fear that their core users will abandon their products if they get a bad response from the community. If so, how do you handle bugs or features that are being discussed amongst the team?

Tough question, you could ask around internally what’s best. The point of
raising money is that you can work on _more_ features, which is why going for
a seed round often is a good thing.

If you feel like you really _need_ as many features as possible before release
to keep people from thinking “oh, this product isn’t even ready yet” and
abandoning it, you could try to commit an initial release with a lot of bugs,
and plan the second release to introduce those features that didn’t make it in
the first.

Maybe try getting your first few users to try it out first?

Good idea, thanks! I will do that.
